Over the course of several months, and indeed years that followed, the mudflow caused extensive damage. It displaced thousands of residents, inundating homes, agricultural land, and infrastructure under a thick layer of hot, corrosive mud. The mudflow covered an area of approximately 600 hectares, significantly impacting local communities and the environment.
